Information & Itineraries

It's worth staying at least 3 days in the Waitomo area - there's so much to experience from the Caves to the Coast! The staff in our i-SITE Visitor Information Centres are your local tourism experts and their help and advice is FREE! They can book activities, accommodation, rental cars and ferry crossings all at no extra charge. They can also create FREE multi-day itineraries for adventure seekers (experience the thrills of cave abseiling or rappelling, zip lining and Black Water Rafting) families (there's something for all ages) nature lovers (explore beautiful walks and scenic drives around Waitomo and Otorohanga) and romantic getaways.

Waitomo Caves is one of the must-see natural attractions in the North Island of New Zealand. There’s so much to do! Above ground attractions combine with underground attractions to create Two Landscapes and Twice the Fun! Waitomo has lured tourists from around the globe for over 120 years. Hundreds of caves perforate the region's limestone landscape, and there are plenty of opportunities to delve underground, either on a dry walking tour or a wet, adrenaline-charged subterranean adventure.

Visiting Waitomo Caves is easy if you start with us as we are a "one stop information and booking shop" right in the heart of Waitomo Caves village. We will provide you with free and up to date information on all your options for every activity both above and below ground.

With so many tours, staff help match your requirements to the experiences available. We can put you in a picture that might include: gliding by boat under glowworms; a 100m abseil; laughing with Billy Black; or visiting a renowned waterfall.

Whether you’re seeking adventure experiences or a gentle cave tour, the holiday of a lifetime or a weekend trip with friends, coordinating a school camp or just a day in the countryside – we will provide all the information you need.

The Waitomo i-SITE is housed in the Waitomo Caves Discovery Centre where you will also find a souvenir shop, a post shop, luggage storage, internet access, photocopying, phone top ups, the Waitomo Education Service, together with the Discovery Centre exhibits.

The i-SITE, Discovery Centre, Post Shop and Souvenir Shop are open every day of the year except Christmas Day.
